How can we build relationships that lead to policy that helps real people? Through mentorship, Deep Roots Initiative participants learn skills to build more equitable communities.

2022 Program Timeline

Applicant Interviews: January 9-13
Program Length: February 1, 2023 through May 1, 2023
Who’s Eligible
Undergraduate and graduate-level students from Metro Jackson area colleges and universities (Jackson State University, Millsaps College, Tougaloo College, Belhaven University, and Mississippi College)
Deep Roots Fellowship
A 1-year, stipend fellowship for graduate students interested in activism, social work, or community organizing.
Deep Roots Fellows will:
- Use their unique skills and knowledge to generate projects
- Participate in experiential learning through Alluvial Collective community building and engagement
- Collect and analyze research data
- Gain valuable knowledge through conceptualizing, planning, and executing projects with Alluvial Collective team members and partners
- Receive up to $2500 stipend per semester
- Engage 6-8 hours per week

Deep Roots Internship
A 1-year, stipend internship for undergraduate students interested in activism, social work, or community organizing.
Deep Roots Interns will:
- Support ongoing projects
- Participate in experiential learning through Alluvial Collective community building and engagement
- Develop and execute undergraduate community-focused engagement with the support of Alluvial Collective team members and partners
- Engage in shared learning and scholarship with a cohort of other Fellows and Interns
- Receive up to $1000 stipend per semester
- Engage 5-8 hours per week
